Module Launch

Today, we had our identifying direction module launch as our final module of L5. I have been so looking forward to a new module, as I found the last collaborative module was so challenging in terms of finishing designs and working with others who were not so invested in the brief.

My initial response to this module was that it seems like a big challenge — I’m looking forward to the clean slate and I’m so determined to do well. For a 40 credit module, I really want to execute impressive outcomes and use this as an opportunity to really develop. I think that initially I was overwhelmed with this module, as it is challenging head on the areas that I would usually avoid, like personal direction. I feel as though this is going to be really hard to identify, but I’m so looking forward to feeling confident and prepared with L6.

Goal Setting and Skills Audit

As part of today’s module launch, we set ourselves goals and identified the skills we need to develop through two separate forms. Below is my goal settings sheet:

My three goals included:

  • Start learning After Effects and using motion graphics.
  • I would like to post one design a week on my account, to keep up my personal work as well as Uni work.
  • My last goal is to continue attending extracurricular events to network as best as possible during the pandemic.

I feel as though these three goals are realistic and achievable for this module; I genuinely really want to keep these up too. I’ve been doing goal setting within my design for for a while anyway, so to have this personal development integrated into a module is really exciting and genuinely ideal.

I would really love to stick to these goals; I am determined to do this module justice and I’m so looking forward to coming out of this module a stronger designer.

Graduate+

With regards to next week’s graduate plus week, I have signed up to the following 5 calls:

  • How to get a job during the pandemic (9th March)
  • How to perfect a LinkedIn profile (9th March)
  • How to get a graduate job (10th March)
  • Defeating Procrastination (10th March)
  • Spotlight on Women’s Aid (11th March)

I will also be attending an extra curricular, external talk on Monday the 8th that is addressing feminism and porn, just as an extra talk to get involved with.

I’m really looking forward to Graduate+ week! I will admit, with other Bronze Graduate+ events, I was relatively lazy or uninterested however, conveniently, Covid has made attending these talks so much easier and accessible. I’m honestly so excited to make steps towards being an employable graduate and making these vocational steps.
